Volunteers at McLane Children's

We celebrate our volunteers and all they do at McLane Children's! Volunteers who donate their time and talents to McLane Children’s Medical Center play a vital role in delivering a positive experience for our patients and families.  Our volunteers work alongside our healthcare team and support our mission to provide personalized health & wellness through exemplary care.

We are committed to providing our patients and families with a meaningful experience at McLane Children’s and volunteers are an important part of the team.  Therefore, we ask that all volunteers commit to giving a minimum of three hours a week and at least six months of service.

Becoming a Volunteer

Volunteers Services at McLane Children’s Medical Center offers a variety of opportunities for volunteer work. Volunteers over the age of 18 that can make a significant time commitment and has a passion for helping others, may be a great fit for our program.

We welcome you to complete an application. It is important to note that volunteers will be placed in areas that fit availability and the needs of McLane Children’s Medical Center.

  • Day Surgery Assistant

To Get Started:

  • Complete a volunteer application
  • Participate in a personal interview with Volunteer Services
  • Complete a medical screening
  • Attend an orientation
    • All volunteers attend a 2-hour hospital orientation
    • Volunteers that will have direct patient contact will attend an additional 1-hour Patient Care orientation
  • Receive training for assigned area of service
  • Attend mandatory additional training/education each year.

Health Sciences summer camp​

McLane Children’s Medical Center is proud to offer a Health Sciences Summer Camp. This 4-week program is designed to provide students enrolled in the Health Sciences curriculum of their high school a “behind the scenes” look into pediatric healthcare.

Students will rotate through different departments, learning specific introductory competencies those fields require.

2018 Health Sciences Summer Camp Dates

Session I: June 18 – July 12

Session II: July 16 – August 10

Each session has 2 cohorts:

Monday-Wednesday OR Tuesday-Thursday

Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Student must commit to all 4 weeks
  • Limited to 10 students per session
  • Application Packetmust be submitted no later than April 10, 2018
  • Selected students will be notified on May 14, 2018

Junior Volunteer Program​

McLane Children’s offers volunteer opportunities for high school students during the summer months and school breaks.

Areas of assignment:

  • Starflower Gift Shop
  • Concierge
  • Physical & Occupational Therapy
  • Clinic Operations
  • Day Surgery Transporter

Assignments are selected by the Manager of Volunteer Services based on the availability of the applicant and the needs of the hospital.

2018 Junior Volunteer Program Information

Dates:  June 18 – August 10

Times:  Students can volunteer 1 or 2 days per week.   Two shifts offered:  9:00am – 12:30pm OR 12:30pm – 4:00pm

To be considered, a student must:

  • Complete a Junior Volunteer application 
  • Obtain 2 teacher references
  • Have all parental consent forms completed 
  • Participate in a personal interview with Volunteer Services
  • Complete a medical screening
  • Attend an orientation

Applications are due no later than Friday, April 27, 2018

Selected students will be notified via EMAIL on Friday, May 18, 2018​
